On-call shift transfer between physicians.
"I have to cancel my Thursday on-call, who can replace me?" The usual phone-call cascade is replaced by an online transfer board. Fast. Traceable. Fair.
The current problem
In most FMGs, replacing an on-call shift goes like this:
- Physician A realizes they can't cover their shift.
- They call the manager (often in a panic).
- The manager makes 5-10 calls/emails to find a replacement.
- They spend time updating the Excel file to reflect the change.
- Sometimes: no replacement found, the shift stays uncovered, the manager carries the load.
This costs: time, energy, frustration on both sides, and sometimes uncovered shifts.
How Synchro solves it
1. The physician posts their shift
From their Synchro calendar, physician A clicks on their on-call shift and publishes "For transfer".
2. Eligible colleagues get a notification
Synchro identifies physicians who are:
- Eligible for that shift type (some shifts require specific skills)
These physicians receive a notification: "Shift available: Thursday 6pm-10pm."
3. First to accept takes the shift
A physician clicks "I'll take it." Synchro updates the schedule instantly. Physician A is notified their shift is covered. The manager sees the change in their dashboard.
Impact on fairness
Transfers affect workload. Synchro updates the fairness counters automatically. A physician taking extra shifts sees their counter go up; one giving up shifts sees theirs go down. Fairness stays measured and visible.
